If your tape drive is ask to insert more than 2 or 3 volumes, try this command.
tape reset                 This will reset the controller and the tape drive
tape reten                This command will retention the tape on the spools.
tape status               This command will check the status of the drive (ready beginning of tape)
If you try these command and keep getting the message, cannot open /dev/rct0. Call for more support!
