fPserver is designed to handle communication and data flow from multiple fPclient GUI Interfaces to the basic filePro® data base and programs.
System Architecture:
fPserver talks with fPclient PC's and provides the interface between the fPclient and the fpdaemon software that runs filepro 5.0.
Multiple instances of fPclient can be launched on the same PC providing a great deal of access flexibility.
The server side software, fPserver and filePro 5.0, which the fPclient PC interacts with is available for a variety of platforms including but not necessarily limited to Windows, UNIX, Linux, HP/UX, Sun Solaris, and IBM/AIX.
Database Communication Technology:
Each instance of fPclient communicates with an fPserver using a TCP/IP socket and a
detailed messaging protocol which controls the flow of screen presentation and data and handles menu interaction.
fPserver communicates directly with the filePro kernel which handles all of the record access etc.
fPclient PC's can be located anywhere there is TCP/IP internet access.
In situations where the application developer does not want to have the fPclient software installed on a remote PC,
an fPclient applet is available. It can be accessed using popular browsers such as Netscape and Internet Explorer.
